2010 here we come!

Friday, January 1st, 2010

2009 was a big year! It was an awesome year for many people I know personally, and it seemed like politically and financially the whole country was biting the big one.

A milestone you may have missed in comics was a former GAMmer, Erika Moen, ended her personal and quirky journal Comic called DAR: A Super Girly Top Secret Comic Diary. The comic began in 2003 and was included in one of Girlamatic’s original line-ups. We’ve been cheering on Erika ever since her departure from GAM toward her journey becoming a freelance artist! We’d like to give a shout out to Erika on this awesome 2009 milestone, and wish her a fabulously happy and exciting 2010!

Also in 2009, we announced the return of Chasing Rainbows by the enigmatic Svetlana Chmakova (Dramacon and Night School)! We’re immensely excited to have Svet back on one of our most anticipated series!
The start date will be announced soon! Stay Tuned!

If you haven’t yet heard our December podcast please check it out!

2010 Will hold a lot of new adventures for Girlamatic as a magazine, as well as publisher. 2010 Will see the first Girlamatic print magazine collection with your favorite comics to hold in your hand! Plus much much more by new and old GAM creators alike!

We’ll also be starting a Ustream and You Tube channel and we’ll be welcoming submissions in all media very soon for that!

Girlamatic of 2010 will also get a new coat of paint and some better features! Hold on to your hats folks :)

See you soon!

A Big Welcome to Ira of Witch Knots!

Thursday, October 15th, 2009

witchknotsI am very please to announce the launch of an amazing new series here on Girlamatic!
Ira Marcks is a teacher and a visual storyteller, he also creates a beautifully done watercolor strip called Witch Knots.
Simple layout, but tiny delicate details in each frame tell the story of a witch who crafts powerful necklaces.

I was really excited when Ira was excited to join Girlamatic. Please head over to his comic, which you’ll be seeing more of on the main site too soon, and tell him welcome, and read Witch Knots! I know you’ll be as impressed as I was. Look forward to more from Ira and more Witch Knots. It updates MWF.

Stay tuned for Hold My Life, starting next week! Also, Kory from Skin Deep will be launching her comic here on Girlamatic officially in NOVEMBER! Be on the look out for spooky strangeness! Gam-O-Ween is on it’s way!

We have a super secret end of 2009 in store for all of you!
Please also take a look at our Whip It Words and Art wall! Please spread the word and submit your own art and stories!

More very soon!

Whip It Inspired Reader Gallery!

Tuesday, October 6th, 2009

hero-wallheaderCheck out our cool new graffiti wall! I just recently saw Whip It directed by Drew Barrymore, and on top of it being great seeing another women director out there, it was a really great, feel-good movie.

After seeing it I though how well it really drove home the things that Girlamatic represents. Self-identity, good community, expressing yourself, and achievement. Also, the tag line “Be Your Own Hero” I thought was excellent and really played on through out the movie. The film didn’t pull any punches when it came to how to standing up for oneself, knowing when you’ve done wrong, and not putting up with crap from others, no matter how important to you they may seem.

It’s a good first flick for a new director, and I recommend it as a good way to kick off Fall movie season.

Even if you don’t see it stop by the wall, and contribute your art and stories! Muse on a life experience where someone inspired your to get out there. Or tell Drew Barrymore in an open letter what you thought of her directorial debut! Submit your Roller Derby Girl art! Dress up as a roller derby girl and take a picture! Are you a Roller Derby Queen? Tell us about your team and where you’re from, and what you love about it! GAM creators are participating too!

Thanks to Stevie Wison who created our own Girlamatic Roller Derby Girl! Thanks for your awesome art Stevie!

If you have time stop by the Webcomic Reader’s Choice Nominations and nominate Girlamatic for Best Community Site!    Create a free account to nominate. Girlamatic is listed in the drop down, and be sure to mention why you love the GAM community specifically.

Thanks for all your support, and thanks for reading, from all the GAM creators and myself!

Stay tuned for an awesome Gam-o-ween event starting on the 15th! Be Here!
