Greetings.
Here’s a link to a print-ready PDF coloring page…

Happy seasonings, y’all…

Mama Rose is loosely based on Mama Rose from the musical Gypsy, as are other characters throughout this webcomic. They aren’t direct copies, although Mama Rose is the closest to the original in how Rose’s regard for her own child(ren) were less important than her own needs. The musical version has Rose with serious (sometimes desperate) attachment issues, while my Rose callously disregards her child – my Rose does not deny her exploitation and doesn’t care what people think of her as long as her image doesn’t get in the way of business. In this, she is much more like Ebenezer Scrooge than Rose Hovick.
I seem to come back to the Rosalind Russell reference well all the time. Most references seem to come from either the movie Gypsy or from Auntie Mame (my favorite movie EVER). We could play “Spot The Reference” with almost every page of Gypsy…

Yes, I admit it… I’m a Star Wars geek, going waaaay back. Not to the point that I’ve read all the books and own all the comics, but I do have a Lightsaber collection with over 40 pieces [from some expensive FX Lightsabers to those Lightsaber spoons that came in some cereal or other back in 1999, I think].
For my birthday I bought myself a Voice Changing Clone Trooper Helmet. I wanted to do something with it, so I’ve been planning on using it for a costume aimed at the Starfest convention here in Denver in April [I think]: The Clone Jedi KAR120C. I know, this is something that would be impossible in [Star Wars Universe] theory, but it’s meant to be a joke anyway. Stage 1, as is the first stage of any costume, is lots of planning [in the form of sketches]. Stage 2 is materials gathering, in this case, props – which brings me to the whole point of posting this: I built a Clone Jedi Lightsaber:

It cost about $8 and was put together in less than an hour. It’s the fifth Lightsaber hilt I’ve made so far, not counting the the six or seven Wooden Practice Lightsabers I’ve made.
Yeah, I’m a geek. Geek enough to post something like this for no other reason than to show off my latest piece of geekery. Anyways, I should get back to REAL work, like Monday’s Gypsy page.

Just saying thanks for reading and have a good holiday by posting this old turkey from 2004…

Greetings,

Sorry for the delay this week – Gypsy should be posting a bit later after I scan/clean/post the page. Lucky for me, Trish Malone sent a lovely bit of Fan Art to fill the void, so have a look and enjoy – and possibly consider doing your own art…

halloween 2009
Greetings,
Gypsy will likely post on Wednesday again as I am working on a Halloween comic thingy. I made a Halloween wallpaper available on my site – please let me know if i’m missing screen sizes.
Thanks – gg
sorry but… probably tomorrow i, um… busy weekend show and sleep, well… can’t finish a… grapefruit. When was the last time I had grapefruit? I can’t remember… NO, Sentence – I can’t finish a sentence. Okay, I have finished drawing the next post of Gypsy (the last page of the chapter BTW) but it probably won’t be posted until Tuesday, after finishing the post-production stuff.

Sorry for not posting last week, but I had a 20-page book to finish for this past weekend’s convention. Short of catastrophe I don’t think there will be any more interruptions for the foreseeable future. Thanks for reading… gg
Greetings,

Sorry about the technical difficulties – I’m still leaning the new GAM system. Today’s page is as it should be. Next update is on Monday, assuming I can get over the plot wall I’m up against.
Anyways, I thought I would use this space to let you, the reader, know about some of the other comic stuff I do. I started drawing comics professionally (a designation that is arguable, but that’s a different blog) in 1997 with the print comic Forty Winks. There is a webcomic branch of this story titled The Perils of Pandora updating over at Webcomicsnation. It’s a lengthy adventure, not quite as long as Gypsy will be but still fairly long. Look for it every Wednesday at WCN. (Forty Winks can now be found at Gypsygirl Press)
Also at the WCN is a thing I call Nonsequiteria, a repository for stuff that won’t fit anywhere else. Tuesday is Old Sketchbook Day, randomly posting something from the 30 years worth of sketchbooks laying about the house. Thursday is Random Comic Day, featuring, well… a Random Comic. On Saturdays it’s time for Professor Longhairs to Point at something – I’m not sure why, it’s just something the Professor does every Saturday.
There are other comics at WCN, some short stories, some 24-Hour comics… the easiest way to find all of these is through www.gypsygirlpress.com.
