Hello and welcome to “Shrub Monkeys”!

My name is Katie Shanahan, I’m an animator by trade, currently employed as a freelance storyboard artist, and I live in jolly old Toronto, Canada. What you’re reading here is an auto-bio webcomic journalish/diary/thing which takes various observations, scenarios, and sometimes flat-out-made-up-ramblings from my life (example, I have in fact not yet been chaperoned to La Senza with with Gerard Butler) and slaps them on the screen in the form of a bi-weekly gag strip for your enjoyment! But… “WHY” might you ask? I tell you!

While making a living in cartoons is a dream come true, I’m sometimes not able to get enough of a creative-outlet from of my work-work, and so I started up this here  comic as a way to draw whatever I feel like, experiment, makes mistakes, but above all have fun and tell stories about the people I care about!  Since starting the comic a couple years back (a lady never tells exactly HOW many years) I’ve been absolutely floored by the overwhelming positive feedback, and at how many people are able to relate to and identify with what’s going on in the strip. My favourite part of making these comics is reading the stories (your stories!) that people post back, and realizing how similar we all are even though we come from all over the place.
