Heartaches 2: Explain Later

Heartaches 2: Explain Later

Edit: It appears that the site is still not working 100% for everybody still. Remember that the WCN mirror is still working if you cannot see the page here! Also, make sure you try clearing your cache before trying to view the page. There’s a chance that the page might be fixed, but your browser is still loading up the broken code. I don’t know if that will work or not but it’s worth a shot!

Okay! I think the site might be working again? I’ve had people tell me that it’s been slowly getting better. Please tell me if you are still having problems! I can’t do anything about the problems, but at least I’ll know if they get better.

But anyway, look Madam U! She can fix this pickle, I’m sure of it. Also fun fax: Eleanor is quadrupedal. She has the ability to walk around on her back legs, but it’s really awkward. Her natural gait is more like that of an otter’s.

I almost forgot to mention that there is a teeny tiny cameo by a couple of Sfé Monster’s characters in the second panel. I drew them so tiny you can barely see what they are, but I thought they still deserved a shout out. Although it should be mentioned that every page with Anthony and Blanche also deserves a shout-out to Sfé, since Sfé created them.

Nope still having issues with the update. Nothing comes through on where the comic should be.
LOVE YOUR ARTWORK AND THE COMIC! Your alphabet cards were a great gift for my daughter to learn her letters by.

  2. Working fine for me. ^^ I can see the comic no problem.

  3. SpotWEld says:

..Her natural gait is more like that of an otter’s.

She just keeps getting more adorable.

  5. Oliver says:

    Holy geez, I just realized….

    ALT TEXT!

  6. KT says:

Love your comic, I think Iv’e reread it more that a hundred times :) Quick question. If Madam U. is blind, why does she have all those books in her hands?

  7. Beat says:

    MADAME U MADAME U MADAME U!!!!!!

GAWD CAN YOU TELLS US WHAT’S HAPPENIN’ TA TONY MADAME U!!!?????!?!??

    I am [em]blind[/em] Blanche.

Eeeee! I love this story so much!!!! Eeeee! And I can’t wait until you reveal what Tony is to everyone; I realized a couple weeks ago that I’ve seen the thing on, er, yeah. Poor Anthony. But SQUEEEEEE I LURVES THIS COMIC SO MUCH.

    • demonic.cheshire says:

speaking of her bein blind, and junk, how does she know which of tose books go where?

      • Beat says:

Some snakes have infared vision that makes up for the fact they’re nearly always in the dark… Of course, that would make up for her being blind. So she probably has some sort of super-smell or can see heat or infared.

        • Victor Wren says:

She sorts them in order of weight and thickness. She can’t tell you the title, but if you know how many pages it has, she can find it.

Site has been working fine for me since it came back from the grave, but I have your other one bookmarked just in case.

  8. Eirik says:

Why am I getting the odd feeling that Tony wasn’t affected by the medallion? Seems like an awful lot of time has passed. Perhaps his changes are from some other cause? Is Kory pulling a fast one on us here? :-)

    • David says:

Michelle’s took a while too, her and Anthony were both unchanged during the time it took them to walk home from wherever they were. They both changed in the same day they got their medallions, so it’s just a delayed reaction, I guess.

    • Daumier says:

To me it feels like it’s too cool to be true! Like maybe he’s just accidentally stumbled on some kind of scaly-arm curse or something. I am suspicious of the whole thing, Kory, the whole thing! >.>

      • Max says:

Thats exactly what came into my mind over the weekend.
Further clue: only his arms changed, the rest of his body seems kind of undisturbed like his head, ears and hair. He could just be a mythical creature with humanoid head, so thats that, but his whole figure screams human at me, especially that he apparently still fits his shoes!
It feels more like an allergical reaction to me now.
But I’m still routing for a reptilian mythical creature!

        • KT says:

but look at the side of his head. His hair is changing. Not that it helps figuring out what he is though

        • Mai says:

Well actually it could be that he had the wrong medallion – Michelle’s took awhile but she was given the right one by the shade of her dad yeah? Tony was just handed a random one. Once he gets the correct one it could be problem solved!

          • Beat says:

I’m pretty sure you only react to the correct one in the first place. The way I understand it, the illusion spell is like password protection on a computer. You need to have the exact password or nothing happens.

  9. Tali says:

I spy with my eyes a big, fat clue, but I’m restraining myself – not an easy chore – from pointing it out. ;)

    • werew says:

haha, i see it too! but that was there in another page, wasn’t it? only not so detailed. that would be epic, if it is a clue! the hands kinda look like that.

i find it quite funny that Blanche took the time to change in the middle of running around like that.. i mean it’s pretty quick and evidentially effortless, but it’s still funny that he spared the brainpower to remember to do it!

    • Tesseri says:

Holy, how did I miss THAT before?! lol your comment made me look again very closely at each panel. NICE!

  10. David Menendez says:

I took a look at the HTML for this page, and I noticed that the img tag links to “http://girlamatic.com/skindeep?comic_object=1026″, which is the HTML page for the comic update instead of the image file. I suspect that something in WordPress is confusing the comic’s page with the comic’s image.

Further support for that theory: the previous and next buttons now include the title-text for the comic image.

    • david Menendez says:

And now that I’ve posted a comment, the image loads fine. That’s really bizarre.

      • KoryBing says:

Yeah, since most people can see the page fine, and this is only affecting a small number, I have no idea what is going on. I’m not the best at website code, but if the code was wrong wouldn’t it effect everybody and not just a handful?

The problems seem to be getting better as time goes on, so I’m hoping it will just work itself out.

        • Anima says:

Actually, no, if its a problem affecting a specific browser, then only those using that browser will be experiencing problems. I am using Firefox and I see everything just fine though o_O

          • glenchild says:

hmm. If it’s browser specific, my windows internet explorer here at work doesn’t want to display the current page. Last night I was using safari at home and it worked just fine.

        • Watani says:

For all those having issues with the loading picture, I’ve found the problem. The problem is with the DNS servers that come with your ISP and internet connection. I’m using Cox, and it turns out some of their DNS servers cannot display the images.

After resetting the connection several times I finally managed to get some DNS servers that do support the images, and now I can see the images.

The only solution I can offer for now is to keep resetting your internet connection until the images load when you get good DNS servers. A more permanent fix would require Girlamatic to work out why some DNS servers won’t accept their images.

          • KoryBing says:

Thanks for this! I’ll pass along your comment to the higher-ups at Girlamatic in case it helps at all. : )

            • Watani says:

It seems that the only way I can get the images to show up if they disappear is to get the internet connection reset (unplug the wireless router), but I still can’t pinpoint the exact source of the problem. The DNS servers may be the problem, but there is also the chance that the problem is caused by connecting to the internet through a router.

If the people who cannot view the images on this website could comment on whether they are using a router or not, that may clear up if the router or the servers are at fault.

  11. Mary says:

Website’s working just fine for me now.
Also, alt text is FTW! Plus, the suspense is actually making me jittery.

  12. Roy says:

Remember that Tony touched another medallion just before Madame U was introduced. Blanche was trying to remember if it was a medallion for a nixie or a nook. He wasn’t sure if there was much difference. Madame U interjected that there was a big difference

  13. Mishyana says:

A thought: Just because Madam U herself is blind does not mean her head snakes are.

  14. Kuragari Okami says:

I want to know what he is~ The suspense is killing me!

  15. Felix says:

Only U can prevent something bad happening to Tony!

    • Roy says:

Is it necessarily bad? Getting a disease is bad. This is more like finding out that you have powers and abilities beyond mere mortal human beings. Deep inside, just about everybody would like to be somehow special, to be able to do something others can’t. This is sort of like doing some genealogical research and finding out you are descended from some noted historical figure. Often when reading these stories, I ponder what sort of creature I would like to discover I am if given a medallion.

      • demonic.cheshire says:

lol, me too. I like to think I would be something awesome, like a leprechaun, or a sea serpent or something.

        • eirik says:

I mentioned this earlier, before we knew that Tony was changing, but even if ends up something great and wonderful, Blanche just completely destroyed Tony’s worldview. Tony wasn’t really given a chance to absorb what was happening before Blanche decided put Tony in a situation where he’d be tested and possibly changed.

I’ve got a great deal of interest in transformation stories myself, but if a friend thrust me into a situation that I had assumed was a complete fiction without any real warning I’d probably be a little pissed off and a little scared.

  16. Christopher Thomas says:

Are the January filler strips still available? They don’t presently seem to be in the main navigation path, and I’d wanted to show someone the “marshmallow contest” one a few days back. The main thread and “creatures” thread are still nifty too; I just liked the filler panels as well!

    • KoryBing says:

Yes! I mentioned it briefly in my most recent comic page, but I moved the Reader Questions off the site and they are still available here. There’s a link at the bottom of the Chapters page, and when the site is back at 100% I will make a proper link for them in the Extras section (right now the site will not let me do that, hah). If you want to see them in big ol’ groups I also put them up in my deviantART account.

  17. kkobsessed says:

Madam U is awesome and a half!

  18. Patricia says:

Ooh, I think I figured out what Tony may be. Now let’s see if I’m proved right.

  19. Raith says:

Ah Kory i love the comments you leave on your comics
“good job calming him down blanch *insert eye roll here*”

  20. TheDeere says:

It seems to display comics alright when I first arrive and use Previous to find my old reading position but fails to display any but the newest trying to move forward again.

  21. KatamariDamasheeeee says:

Oo omg he looks so cute and cuddled up in the last panel!!( talking about tony not blanch)
