Heartaches 24: The Problem with Humans

Heartaches 24: The Problem with Humans

I hope you like text. Tim’s all “blah blah blah” I hope y’all don’t mind. Lorne, Alec (also probably Ike), do you not know it is rude to eavesdrop on a private freakshow conversation come on guys.

I can’t wait for Anthony’s feathers to grow in completely. He will be so much easier to draw.

Oh geez…Poor Anthony’s expression in the fourth panel…priceless! XD

  2. Quats says:

Awwww…. he’s gone from “fffffffffffffffffffffff!” angry to puppy-dog. Those eyes. THOSE EYES.

  3. Moss27 says:

Tony’s wings are so pretty! And they’re not even fully grown yet!

Did you reverse the texture so that the blotch from Tim’s shirt on the previous page is on the top? XD

  4. Sol Fox says:

I’m guessin’ Tim’s fishing for family curses or magic users.
I personally love pages with lots of info. It shows you put a lot of thought into the world you’re writing in.
    Great job as always!

  5. HikariKirameku says:

I don’t mind the Tim babble, it’s all rather informative on how things in the Skin Deep world works. It’s rather interesting.

I noticed Tony doesn’t seem to need to cling to Blanche to stand anymore…guess that means he’s getting used to being digitigrade now (or maybe his legs needed a bit more time to change, I dunno).

    Also, yay for Tony’s puppy-dog faces! He looks all sorts of pathetic ^^;

  6. milokey says:

Anthony’s hands change shape from panels 1 and 3. First they look long and slender, then they seem to change to thicker digits, especially when compared to Tim’s face in that panel.

I finally come to comment on something and it’s critique derp.

Doesn’t look like Tim’s speech is inspiring confidence.

    • Nziz says:

I saw it as the third panel fingers looking naturally thicker because they were curled more, and the flesh bunched up a bit.

  7. Tesseri says:

Shouldn’t Blanche be visible in the last panel?

I don’t mind Tim’s little speech! INFO on SD is great!

    • KoryBing says:

Shhh! Don’t point out my obvious continuity problems that I should have caught days ago!

I mean, uhhh, Blanche is off panel. Running around. He fell into an alternate dimension on accident.

      Yeah. That’s the ticket.

  8. Tali says:

Funny thing, the detail I like the most on this page is the wedding band on Tim’s hand (well. I’m assuming it’s his wedding ring, being on the ring finger on his left hand and all). I just do. :)

(It might had to do with the fact that my dad’s a pastor and had done about fifty weddings up to this date.)

  9. Kaileighblue says:

Looks like Tim is judge Tony. Maybe he’ll win best in show.

  10. ZeroDragon says:

I hope that shirt isn’t his favourite one. I don’t think it’ll live through this ordeal. Haha.

Tony’s wings are really starting to look good. :0 And haha, Blanche used invisibility~!
I’m guessing Tim’s looking for something that resembles magic/creature in his familial background?

  11. Kironoru says:

I tend to read the lines from comics that I read in my head, and whenever I read Tim’s it’s always with a Jamaican accent, and I can’t think of why..

    • KoryBing says:

Hah! If it helps, Tim’s got a Welsh accent. It’s not as thick as Abbie’s, but it’s still there.

      • Rachel says:

Welsh, hrm? So, in other words, imagine that you don’t have any normal vowels left (Polynesian beat you up and took them all), and so you have to resort to using ‘y’ and even ‘w’ as vowels when speaking. Then use that voice for Tim? ;)

  12. I AM SAMMICHES says:

I cant help but read Tim’s dialog in a thick Scottish accent and sometimes it makes no sense to me

  13. Daioni says:

Uh oh, I get the feeling the other shoe is going to drop. Poor Anthony may just be in one of those ‘irriversible’ situations. Hopefully he will be able to fly with those wings, it would be nice to get some compensation back for having his life turned upside down.

  14. Moriar says:

I’m guessing that Tim is asking about family in preparation for the “Here’s how to tell your mother/father/caregiver aunt that you’re stuck as a bird-thing.” speech.

Hopefully, he has the appropriate informational pamphlets on hand.

  15. Maki P says:

Dammit woman! Can you keep it in your pants Tony is in…… eh eh eh…… is that a full shot of Tim’s butt?

  16. Oddissi says:

The shape of Tony’s wings remind me of falcon wings. Especially Peregrine falcons, with how they taper toward the end there. They’re very elegant, and no doubt will be impressive once complete. I’m sure Tony doesn’t want to hear that, though. Poor guy!

And my theory is that Blanche is climbing the walls with anxiety, and is somewhere on the ceiling in the bottom panel.

  17. Flo says:

a sailor, eh? sailor just always strike me as a easily cursed lot.

    • Lunar says:

well yeah! Always being lured to their untimely deaths by Sirens, having Selkie spouses… um… being eaten by Scylla and Charybdis?

  18. Amoux says:

It’s late and i’m super tired but “for a people” was confusing to read. o_O I think you mean it in a “for a race” or “for a species” kind of way?

I really like all the attention you’ve been giving to his wings! Very nice details to pay attention to as he goes through his transformation. I’m happy to read plenty of text as well, plus there’s still lots of nice art in the panels to look at that go with it. :)

    • Felix says:

No, “For a People” works. It usually just means a subset of “everyone.”

So you could say the sentence about geeks/nerds, “For a people so proud of their smarts, they sure forget to bathe a lot.”

      • Amoux says:

        I see, thanks!

      • Anima says:

But since its plural, wouldn’t that mean it would be “For people” not “For a people”?

        • KoryBing says:

The plural version of the way he is using “people” here (referring to a single group) would be “peoples”, as in “the native peoples of the island” I believe.

And if I am wrong, he’s from Wales and doesn’t have perfect grammar.

  19. Mishyana says:

I wonder if Tony’s face is going to change any more. I think it staying (relatively) ‘normal’ is the only thing keeping him from losing it completely, lol.

  20. Flup says:

Perhaps his mother was a Nokk?

  21. Sam says:

Is anyone else having problems getting this page to load?
